Anderson County, SC
Fence Company in Northlake, SC
Northlake is built on both sides of a Lake Hartwell arm with Interstate 85 along its northern edge. Sloping yards and water views change what a fence should be here.
Looking for a fence company in Northlake, SC means looking for one that can build on a grade, because very little ground in this community is flat. We have run 55 plus fence jobs across Anderson County since 2018, hold 4.7 stars from 24 Google reviews, and quote every one of them on site rather than over the phone.
Northlake borders the north side of the city of Anderson, which makes it one of the quickest calls we take. There is no trip charge inside Anderson County, the quote is free with no deposit and no obligation, and we work 7am to 7pm seven days a week so a Saturday measure is normal rather than a favor.
A community built on both sides of a lake arm
Northlake is a census designated place of 3,818 people covering about 5.2 square miles in central Anderson County, bordering the north edge of the city. An arm of Lake Hartwell runs through the middle of it, so the community sits on both banks, and Interstate 85 forms its northern boundary.
Water through the center and an interstate across the top produce two completely different fence problems inside one small community. On the lake side the questions are slope, views and where the property actually ends. On the I-85 side they are screening, headlights and the honest limits of what a fence can do about traffic noise.
Northlake is unincorporated, so City of Anderson ordinances do not govern here and South Carolina sets no statewide fence permit or height cap. County regulation and any covenants recorded on your parcel are what apply.
Slope, water and not fencing away the reason you moved here
A yard that falls toward a cove gets built one of two ways. Stepped, where each section stays level and the fence descends like stairs, which leaves a wedge shaped gap under every step. Or racked, where the rails follow the ground and the pickets stay plumb, which keeps the bottom tight but only works in materials designed to rack. We decide standing in the yard, because a slope always reads differently in person.
The second decision is what you can see through. People buy on a lake arm for the view and then enclose it with six feet of solid wood. Where containment is the real goal, rackable aluminum or black vinyl coated chain link holds a dog and a boundary while leaving the water visible, and a short solid section can still screen the one spot that needs it.
Where a lot runs toward the water, know where your line stops. The Corps of Engineers holds ground above full pool around most of Lake Hartwell, and its 962 miles of shoreline are managed under federal shoreline rules rather than by your plat. We build to your corners and stop there.
The Interstate 85 edge and what a fence can honestly do
A solid fence along the northern side of Northlake will block headlights and give you a visual break, and that alone is worth a great deal at night. It will not do much for the sound. Traffic noise goes over and around a six foot fence, and anybody selling you a wood fence as a noise wall is overselling it.
What does help is mass and continuity: no gaps at the bottom, boards that overlap rather than butt, and planting behind it. Board on board or a solid steel panel outperforms standard dog eared privacy fence here, and we will tell you the realistic result before you spend the money.

The fence services Northlake asks for most
The short list here is shaped by slope and by views, so aluminum and chain link do more of the work than they would in a flat subdivision.
Chain Link Fence Installation in Northlake, SCBlack vinyl coated chain link disappears against a tree line better than people expect, and on a sloped lot it follows grade with no gaps underneath.
Wood Fence Installation in Northlake, SCWood built on site racks to a grade far better than a preassembled panel, which matters on almost every lot in this community.
Vinyl Fence Installation in Northlake, SCVinyl panels want level ground, so on a Northlake slope they step rather than rack, and we show you what those steps will look like before you commit.
Aluminum Fence Installation in Northlake, SCRackable aluminum follows a Northlake slope without stair stepping and keeps the lake arm visible, which is why it is the most common pick on the water side.
Privacy Fence Installation in Northlake, SCSolid screening here is usually aimed at one specific thing, a road, a neighbor's deck or headlights, rather than wrapped around the whole yard.
Fence Repair in Northlake, SCSloped ground moves after heavy rain, and most Northlake repair calls trace back to a post at the bottom of a run where water has been collecting.

Questions we get asked
Fence questions from Northlake homeowners
Will a privacy fence cut the noise from Interstate 85?
Not much, and we would rather say so up front. Sound from an interstate travels over and around a six foot residential fence, so what you gain is mostly the visual break and the end of headlights sweeping your yard at night. That is genuinely worth having, but it is not a noise wall.
If sound is the main goal, the things that help are mass, height and no gaps: board on board or steel panel rather than standard dog eared privacy fence, the bottom closed tight to the ground, and planting behind the fence. We will build the best version of that, and we will tell you what to expect from it rather than letting you find out afterward.
My back yard slopes down toward the water. Can you still fence it?
Yes, and the method is chosen on site. On a moderate fall we usually rack the fence so the rails follow the ground and the pickets stay vertical, which keeps the bottom tight with no gaps for a dog to use. On a steep or broken grade we step it, keeping each section level and dropping the fence in stairs, and we live with the wedge under each step or close it with a kickboard.
Materials decide a lot of this. Site built wood, chain link and rackable aluminum follow a grade. Preassembled vinyl panels do not, so on a steep Northlake lot vinyl means steps. It is worth looking at both before you pick a material rather than after.
How far toward the lake can my fence go?
To your property corners and no further. Lake Hartwell is a US Army Corps of Engineers project and the Corps holds land above full pool around most of the reservoir, so on a lake arm lot the deeded boundary typically stops uphill of the water. What can be placed on that federal strip is governed by Corps shoreline rules, not by your deed.
Practically, that means we want the corners located before we quote a run that heads downhill. Where the pins cannot be found, a survey is far cheaper than pulling posts back out of ground you do not own, and we will tell you when we think you need one.
