Can I put a privacy fence along the Doodle Trail side of my lot?

Keep the chain link along the sides where you only want containment, and build a solid privacy run across the back where you actually want the screen. How long before a new wood privacy fence starts showing gaps?
If it is butted pine, expect visible daylight through the first full drying season, usually the summer after it goes up. Treated lumber goes into the ground wet and narrows across the width as it dries, so the boards pull back from each other.
